He was also a member of the Bryant Community Church where he served in church leadership. He was a member of the Elks Lodge and served on the board of Rural Water District No. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving with the United States Army. During his early years, he grew up in Arizona, but at the age of 12, he moved back to Oklahoma where he graduated from Indianola High School.
